Some at TSZ suggested that we all should unite, Darwinists and the rest (I guess), during this time of uncertainties and do something…
But, what could we do?
I have some data (weak though) I wanted to use on an OP related to drugs that could upregulate the enzyme (receptor) that provides the entry to the host cell for COVID-2019. But, no go for now…
So, could the autophagy help?
It seems autophagy is a double edge sword: it can help in some types of cancer, for example, but it may not in very few other…
What’s autophagy? In short, it’s junk-removal-brigade of the cell…
While its role is not black and white, good or bad, could it help with the prevention of COVID-19 as indicated in the paper…
I have linked this paper recently: Yang and Shen, 2020
Autophagy can be induced by many means, such as water fasting for 18-32 hours, exercise, etc.
My personal opinion is that when we get sick with flu and the like, and don’t feel like eating, our bodies go to self-induced autophagy…
What do you think?
Let us fast!!!
“I have some data (weak though) I wanted to use on an OP related to drugs that could upregulate the enzyme (receptor) that provides the entry to the host cell for COVID-2019. But, no go for now…”
I asked for a permission to get publishing rights for few days, so I could update the OP in real time as there is a very interesting development of pros and cons regarding drugs that could upregulate the receptor for the COVID-19 entry into the host cell…
Alan said no…
So, here we go with the autophogy…
I give up!
I cant Chance it!
Alan Fox,
Lol
I just realized I had my mobile device switched to another language…
I was trying to write a letter in a language I barely know…it’s like you Alan trying to write in French…😉
You can add comments in real time.
It’s not the same… comments get lost if the OP is popular…
You are not worried about the meds you are on, are you? 😉
Are you referring to ACE2?
I think that disclaimer at the top is good.
Beyond that, I will leave it to the medical professionals working on the frontline (i.e. with Covid-19 patients).
J-Mac,
Editing OPs that have accumulated comments is not acceptable. If there are new developments warranting it, a new OP may be appropriate. IF…
je me débrouille, quand-même.
J-Mac,
Autophogy? Would that be a process by which one turns oneself into an old phogy? Seems like that would have the opposite of the desired effect; one would be much more susceptible.
Is not eating between meals intermittent fasting?
I’m fasting from your posts. 🙂
I have been testing autophagy on myself, my family, and my patients, for some time now…not real study, but we have been trying to document what happened if we induced autophagy, or we think we did…
I personally noticed that, if I fast for 16-27 hours after a really good workout, or a 1 h soccer game, or a 3 set tennis game, or double-diamond and mogul skiing (I’m not a good skier), I recover a bit faster… much faster sometimes…
My 14 y old, a striker at a top soccer academy wrote in an email to his couch: “I feel better after a tough game, if I don’t eat for 12-13-17 hours after the game. But I’m hungry at times”
I don’t think we NEED to practice autophagy every day but, who knows? It could help even to defeat the coV2019 monster…
I don’t think so…
Intermittent fasting means you don’t eat for a prolonged period of time… in my view at least 12-14 hours…I have been wrong before though…
I thought you had me on ignore?
Have you moved, recently? 😉
Nic mam pojecia co napisales

There is at least some evidence that autophagy can induce a rebuild of the immune system…
Can’t find the link now…sorry
Btw: I hate working from home but I guess that’s a new norm…
What’s the story with D. Trump and his hair?
I don’t think I ever noticed he was balding….
Does he wear a …?
Sorry but I might be wrong…
If you don’t follow intermittent fasting,: i.e. at least 12 hours of fasting, you can do 6-8 hour fasting but your meals would have to be much, much smaller (less calories).
ETA: if true to induce autophagy, you shouldn’t eat any protein for16 hours or more, due mTOR
No, but the possibility of turning into a clad of flies, or an illusion of, always exists…
Thanks for watching!
It’s one entry I have seen…there’s probably more.
There are 2 entries we know about… hope I’m wrong
BTW: ACE2 is problematic at this point… if you, or your wife, are on ACE inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers, and are not a heart failure risk…
ETA: something doesn’t seem right what I just wrote…
I will review in the morning…sorry
That’s right! Very good, J-Mac! You may be rather slow on the uptake, but you can get there eventually, it seems.
Now, pay attention: back when you were still wittering on ignorantly about statins, PeterP and I pointed out that it was RAAS and ACE2 that mattered.
You thanked me, and only subsequently came up with your Yang and Shen reference, and its goofy picture.
My point being, we have been waaay ahead of you all this time, and your efforts to re-write the history of our interaction isn’t fooling anyone.
BTW: no-one would ever be on an ACE inhibitor and an ARB. What a stupid thing to write! You’ve been ‘skim-reading’ again, haven’t you?
Wrong thread, Mung.
That’s ok. You got off. At least one of us is satisfied!
Meanwhile, your accusations were as I stated. Your mistake is in thinking that I was asking for moderation of your comment. Another failure of your alleged mind-reading skills.
Is it against “the guidelines” to point out that you’re a hypocrite while avoiding attacking you personally and just addressing your comment?
You’re starving your kids to protect them against Covid-19? The hours must fly by. Couldn’t you just … y’know … avoid other people?
J-Mac,
You are on the right path but there are further steps you can take:

https://nypost.com/2017/06/15/breatharian-couple-survives-on-the-universes-energy-instead-of-food/
“For three years, Akahi and I didn’t eat anything at all and now we only eat occasionally like if we’re in a social situation or if I simply want to taste a fruit.”
You should seriously consider it….
OMagain,
That baby looks quite chubby. Who’d have though air was so nutritious?
Mung,
I think we should all try a round of singing Kumbaya from our doorsteps and balconies!
“It would be unfair to impose Breatharianism upon our children now, but maybe as they grow, they will get deeper into the practices.”
This is parody, surely?
Can you at least fix the link to the paper???
They don’t do it every day… 😊
It’s easy now with no school, because they get to sleep in, so they do intermittent fasting, like it or not….especially the youngest…😊
I personally try to follow 4-8 hours eating periods and 16-20 hours water fasting only… I cheat sometimes… Once a week, I reward myself with some junk food, usually Indian or Thai…
Than, at least once a week, I try not eat any protein after breakfast, which is often lunch, or brunch, eat vegetables and somd berries, and vegetable broth, and drink water with lemon or lime…
If I get beyond 20 hours of not eating, and 24-32 hours of no, or little protein, I often go into ketosis, and likely into autophagy…
J-Mac,
Fixed
It’s working. Thanks!
Thanks for this.
I’d sum this up that there is a controversy over this issue, as stated:
There are two hypotheses on how ACE inhibitors/ARBs may affect COVID-19 infection — one harmful and one helpful. While both these mechanisms have some animal data to support them, there is no clinical data so they both remain largely speculation,” Medscape Medical News.
“For patients with hypertension alone who really don’t want to continue on ACE inhibitors/ARBs then there are alternatives available — they could switch to amlodipine alone or in combination with a beta-locker or a thiazide for similar blood pressure lowering,”
So, there are options, just in case…😊
Also, I also came across animal studies with statins, where upregulation of ACE2 was documented…
Autophogy is not about chronic starvation, as it could have the opposite effect…
Here is good news:
“In recent years, autophagyhas been recognized as a crucial defense mechanism against malignancy, infection and neurodegenerative diseases.1–5 Abrogation of autophagy in neurons can lead to neurodegenerative disease1,2,4 and autophagy may play a role in the development of Alzheimer disease; indeed, enhancement of autophagy has been proposed as one possible treatment for this coming plague.6–8

So, this is great news for the Alzhe Club members…
You should seriously consider it….
Who said anything about starvation? The people who promote living from light are healthy, happy and certainly not starving!
Their personal accounts attest to this. They are living off light not starving to death!
Who said anything about starving? But does not not make sense that living off light instead of corporeral food would have the desired effect?
If you compare our output it’s clear who is more likely to have a neurodegenerative disorder. And nobody mentioned anybody starving to death in those articles. It’s clear that something has caused you to read something that was not there. Perhaps signs of a underlying disorder?
You ask for the benefit of the doubt for your ‘explanations’ regarding the quantum, and for posts like this, yet you accuse those who chose to live off light as promoting starvation! Why don’t you give their beliefs the same respect you ask others to give yours?
This quote:
“For three years, Akahi and I didn’t eat anything at all and now we only eat occasionally like if we’re in a social situation or if I simply want to taste a fruit.”
You asked to consider it, no?
I suggested this kind of diet may not be the best for you, and suggested intermittent fasting instead…and even linked some data on experiments with mice, with whom you sure share close to 100% of the genome, especially the brain genes…😂
Sure…you would have to have some real output, rather than the usual, physiological one…
My far distance vision has recently improved. I don’t need glasses for driving anymore… Can you belive it? 🤗
It has gotto to do something with quantum effect…😉
What else could it be? A miracle? 🤔
