Re my announcement about site tweaks, I forgot to mention comment numbering. It’s doable and there is a plugin but the problem is the displays of several plugins compete for the same display spot and overlay each other. Hoping someone can either provide useful editing skills or advise where such skills can be sought.

Is there no moderator that can post my OP?
Could we do something about people who contribute nothing to TSZ other than trolling? I will not name names for now but there are some who seem to either be out of touch with reality or the great majority of their comments are either nonsense or name calling…
If this doesn’t change, TSZ will become UD…
Another option is that either TSZ has to change the ownership, or the owner has to give some power to admins to change the rules…
Can admins look at some comments by the usual suspects who are polluting OP?
Some are close to cyber bullying, which is illegal in some civilized societies…

I see why Alan wanted his role as a moderator changed to be called something else, like say an admin instead of a moderator. But surely we can come up with more clever names than “admin” for what we used to call moderators who never moderated anything.
Horseflies? Belgian hookers? Bedpans? Sea anomeas? I mean there must be a whole host of names which is just as suitable for moderators who are completely useless, but which are more fun to say than the joke term “admins.”

One of the reasons this place exists is that it is not possible to talk freely at UD. GIven that you now believe the same is true here then the logical next step would be for you to start your own site and run it as you see fit.

I would like this forum to be neutral for all to feel free to post and comment as PS is clearly biased and that is why people like Behe, Axe, Wells would never go there…Gauger and Nelson have seen it first hand…

Since the author of his/her OP would be in charge of moderating, we wouldn’t need moderators except of the general or main forum where we could vote who should be the moderator. I think that Mung and DNA_Jock or Neil could be voted in because of their experience… Phoodoo could do it too…

Well, I don’t think anybody wants to see their OP polluted by loonies; Behe and Axe (and, say, Gauger) are special in that they don’t want people who are scientifically literate polluting their OP’s. Hence the usual retreat to venues with ‘friendly’ moderation.

I guess the problem with moderators at Tsz is that no one will do the moderation for the moderators, so they can’t moderate.
Perhaps you can ask for moderator moderators, who provide moderation for the moderation, maybe call them moderators-squared, since it seems mathy.
Oh, but I just thought of one problem, who is going to provide the moderation input for the moderators-squared. I guess they could solicit help.
Moderators’ moderators -squared assistants need a catchy name. But who has time to think of one? Can some people volunteer to help with that?
That’s why we need community influence where ALL inappropriate comments are flagged just like at PS….

Moderation is much tighter there.Yet phoodoo isn’t really presenting a coherent, sustainable argument for anything special, let alone anything more than a generic, watered down ‘theism’ as it seems. Joshua is ‘out’ as an non-mainstream evangelical Protestant, which is at least a clear designation & he’s a tenured professor. Compared to him, phoodoo’s contribution to knowledge is doodoo.
J-Mac got booted for obvious reasons & isn’t a credible voice in the conversation. Neither will sdc get treated with much credibility there because there are enough natural scientists who reject both IDism & YECism strongly enough to refute his amateurishness at every attempt. And the anti-theists here, which is a fairly small minority, wouldn’t last long because the majority at PS are actually Abrahamic theists who know science well enough to not worry about them using science to bash religion as they do to under-educated evangelicals that they’re used to attacking and insulting. That is likely why only a few have so far made the attempt.
Mung is over at PS. Neil Rickert is over at PS. T_aquaticus is over at PS. It’s better than TSZ, as I’ve written 2 OPs about, because of more than just the software (though Discourse is better too, as long as it’s not overly manipulated, which Swamidass sometimes does). And frankly, who even references UD anymore because that is a cesspool of some of the worst elements of the IDM, held together by an ‘IDist journalist’ merely hawking news?
The main problem with TSZ is that it’s bent towards skepticism, agnosticism & atheism (or ‘apatheism’ from the main admin), which are generally uninspiring topics to bring people together for. Thus, it regularly slips down to the bottom level of discourse because that’s what it was ‘designed’ for by Elizabeth Liddle. There is little searching for higher truths at TSZ. There are few voices who ‘care’ enough to be seekers of inspiration and spiritual enlightenment. The resident philosophers/philosophists are materialists, naturalists, evolutionists, promoters of scientism, quasi-Marxists, hyper-Darwinians and apostates themselves.
TSZ serves a single decent purpose in my view which is strongly rejecting IDism as a wrong-headed ideology (though few here actually call it an ideology, just as the DI also denies that designation). If anyone can find other positive features of this site, do tell what they are.
