Moderation Issues (6)

Please use this thread for (and only for) alerting admins to moderation issues and for raising complaints arising from particular decisions. We remind participants that TSZ is a benign dictatorship, the property of Dr. Elizabeth Liddle. All decisions regarding policy and implementation are hers alone.

  1. Mung: Oh please. To what end may I ask? Will it put a stop to it?

Why would you even propose that only five examples be provided?

I am trying to understand phoodoo. What are you doing?

  2. DNA_Jock: I am trying to understand phoodoo. What are you doing?

I’m trying to understand you. I’m trying to understand why you think that five examples cannot possibly be found. I’m trying to understand why you think that finding five examples would change anything at all.

If phoodoo, or anyone else, can find five examples, will you resign as an admin?

I have a hypothesis. Rather than jumping to conclusions, I am gathering data to test it. You, on the other hand, are ascribing to me positions that I do not hold. Sadly, this has happened before.

If phoodoo, or anyone else, can find five examples, will you resign as an admin?

    What a silly idea.

  4. Dear phoodoo,

I don’t question Nonlin’s intelligence, there’s no such thing to question.

    Best,
    —E.

Well then lazy ass, go check your data, why the hell are you asking others to check the website and see if you can find examples of posters accusing others of low intellect-and the mods doing nothing. You know why you can check it yourself-because you are one of those dam mods! Did you forget that is what you signed up for. I mean you can go ahead and resign if you aren’t interested in reading posts and seeing what their content is. I guess no one told you what moderators are supposed to do.

  6. DNA_Jock: demonstrates your ignorance, as ever.

Don’t get me wrong, I like when Alan and Jock claim there are rules, then break those rules, and then say they aren’t breaking any rules, because the rules don’t apply.

Its funny. Stupid as fuck, and that’s why its funny. Because Alan making this site stupid is funny.

  7. Is it known when the most recent person to join this site was, or how many people have joined TSZ in the past 12 months?

  8. phoodoo: Don’t get me wrong, I like when Alan and Jock claim there are rules, then break those rules, and then say they aren’t breaking any rules, because the rules don’t apply.

    and

phoodoo: I have submitted a new post. Please check.

Are quite the amusing coupling. Who are you asking to check your post? The rulebreakers? Is there a rule that posts should be published if they are legal then? Why would you expect a rule breaker to follow that rule?

In short, collaborator, your hypocrisy is showing.

  9. As one of the targets of phoodoo’s spittle, I request the two comments in question not be guano’ed.
I recognize that Corneel is also a target, however. Your call, Alan.

  10. Alan Fox:
    DNA_Jock,

Corneel is referred to as a scumbag in both comments. It’s beyond the pale in my view.

First, that’s a lie Alan. I asked him if he was a scumbag, I didn’t say he was a scumbag.

Secondly, to quote YOU, maybe he likes being a scumbag, its not an insult, its an observation!

  11. THIS is why Jock is wrong, for those who don’t believe it:

So just so you know how wrong you are, and what a gutless person Jock is, let me just remind you how and why he is wrong. If we were to believe Jocks little fake graphs, I should be able to turn the rubber band into a loop right? An Ant starts at the north pole of this loop (it doesn’t need to be a sphere, a loop will do just fine). What Jock is claiming is that no matter the expansion, as long as the ant keeps walking in one direction he can always make it back to the other end of the circle. Now put that in your mind. Think that over, and then tell me if you believe this? Because if you think this over, and you STILL don’t get it-maybe its not that you are the same scumbag as Jock-maybe you just don’t get it. THIS is why the paradox relies on securing one end, and stretching the ant “forward” on the other.

Still lost Corneel? Or is it an ego thing?

  12. Alan,

I have an OP in the pending queue. Please publish it and elevate my privileges so that I, like others, can post OPs in the future without waiting for moderator assistance.

Also, please change the category of my OP from ‘Evolution’ to ‘Theism and atheism’.

    Thanks.

  13. keiths: elevate my privileges

I’ve swapped your membership category to New Author as requested. Elevation is beyond my powers.

  14. Instructions for petrushka and anyone else who would like to bypass the crappy quote function and do their quotes manually:

It’s pretty easy. Just stick the quote in between a <blockquote> tag and a </blockquote> tag, like this:

    <blockquote>What is the difference between a duck?</blockquote>

    That’s it.

ETA: The answer, if you’re curious: One leg is both the same.

  15. On my phone and my tablet (both Samsung), the keyboard has learned to predict ‘blockquote’ when I type ‘<' and also when I type '</'. That makes it a lot easier.

Do you have autosuggest turned on?

  16. On my phone (a Galaxy S21 Ultra) you can do it by opening the keyboard (I’m using the Samsung keyboard), tapping the gear icon, and then tapping on “Predictive text” to turn it off.

I imagine it’s similar for other keyboards.

  17. Mods,

There’s a comment stuck in the pending queue, apparently from a newly-registered user.

  18. Alan Fox,

but why would one want to turn it off? I for one always have a gentle chuckle when the scientifically created “super” AI fail to accurately read me. Try all you want fools, but nothing changes the fact that faith guides my words, not robots.

  19. Isaac Martinez:
    Alan Fox,

but why would one want to turn it off?

Because I found it worse than unhelpful. I now have it set as an option which is better.

I for one always have a gentle chuckle when the scientifically created “super” AI fail to accurately read me.

Fair enough. What amuses different folks is a source of mystery to me.

Try all you want fools, but nothing changes the fact that faith guides my words, not robots.

Not sure who you mean by the collective “fools”. Sure, we have a commenter here who is keen on faith arguments. Perhaps you’d like to join in on a thread here if those sorts of arguments interest you. I’d counsel caution if your faith (in what, BTW?) is important to you.

  20. Can I post a stats based article on the unexplained recent excess deaths worldwide and all over Europe?
Or the real data is not allowed anymore?

    Apologies for late reply.

Unexplained? The appearance of the SARS- CoV-2 virus around the end of 2019 resulting in many extra deaths due to severe acute respiratory syndrome may have had something to do with it.

PM me when you need an OP publishing.

  22. There was an outage caused by a problem with the private message system. I have disabled it for the moment. Will try and sort out when I have more time.

    We’re back in the room.

  24. TSZ is dog slow for me these days, to the point that pages will sometimes fail to load altogether. Are others seeing this problem?

  25. keiths:

Yes, very slow and broke for a while today. (Error 503)

  26. keiths: TSZ is dog slow for me these days, to the point that pages will sometimes fail to load altogether. Are others seeing this problem?

It was very slow when I posted yesterday evening. But it seems okay today.

  27. There are a couple of issues with the site, most pressing of which is it is running an out-of-date version of PHP. Unfortunately, as this is a hosting issue, resolution requires the intervention of the site owner, who is somewhat elusive, currently.

  28. The malware issue was resolved very quickly, once it was brought to the attention of the webhost. I hope Lizzie will also get around to upgrading from the current version of PHP which might improve site response times.

  29. I worry that there’s something wrong beyond the fact that the PHP plugin is outdated. The site used to be fast, after all, while using this or earlier versions of the plugin.

  30. Mods,

I got the following message when trying to upload an image for a new OP I’ve authored:

The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2023/09.

The file is a plain old .jpg with a size of only 52 KB.

I tried uploading it via the comment editor, with the same results. I also got this error when uploading an old image that had worked in the past.
