  1. I get the same error message if I try to upload a file directly from my device. I can load existing media files into a post but I cannot upload new files to the media library. I suspect this issue needs input from the webhost. Maybe the particular database section storing media is full.

    I could try contacting Lizzie.

  2. I wonder if this is a canary-in-the-coalmine moment. We’re still stuck with an outdated PHP version and the site is also consistently slow to load.

  3. Yup. Pretty sure this is a database capacity issue. There is a whole pile of duplicate and multiple media files but I’m dubious that deleting some would fix it.

Incidentally, I’m also unable to action the latest offered update (it’s only on languages – does anyone use the option to choose another language?) which is also related to database capacity.

  4. Forgot I can look at database files via file manager. The language files eat an enormous amount of space.

  5. A workaround would be upload a file to some media-sharing outfit (is Photobucket still going?) and post a link.

  6. Mods,

In the Pending queue, there’s s comment from Hugh Farey in response to Vincent’s Shroud of Turin OP.

  7. For Colewd and anyone else unsure how to create a link to an URL.

To create a link to a URL, you use greater-than and less-than symbols to enclose the HTML instructions. I’ll use round brackets in the example, open bracket means greater-than arrow (points left) and close bracket means less-than arrow (points right).

So, go to the site and page you want to link to and copy the address. Open the comment box and (at the point you wish the link to appear) type:

    (a href=”

Then paste the link immediately after the ”

    (a href=”https.example.com

Then add another ” and )

    (a href=”https.example.com”)

Then add some explanatory text, be brief and informative

    (a href=”https example.com”)link to example

    Then follow with (/a)

    (a href=”https example.com”)link to example(/a)

Use greater and less than instead of brackets and all should be well.

  8. I have noticed that when I log in to comment on a post that is an older comment (on another page), my login vanishes when I go to the prior page. Yes, I can copy the prior post manually, paste it in, and insert the blockquote stuff, but it would be nice if I remained logged in when I change pages.

  9. Flint,

Ah, I have the same problem. Choosing the “stay logged in” option only helps to the extent that my logged in status returns when I go back to the current page of any post. I’ll check whether the backup site has the same problem. There’s another issue in that the uploads folder is no longer being saved, which I think is a size issue. It is huge, full of duplicate and redundant files inextricably mixed with ones which would be sorely missed.

Have other calls on my time but will do my best

ETA the backup site doesn’t have that issue, so it must be fixable, I guess.

  10. I have exhausted my imagination trying to upload an image. I click on “choose file” and then click on an image, but nothing happens. I double click on the image and still nothing. I tried copying and pasting the image into the comment box, but nothing appears. I tried pasting into the “choose file” box (and the image link in the paragraph below) but pasting there is not allowed. I note that the post edit option does not allow images to be uploaded when editing. Is there supposed to be some way to determine if an image has actually been uploaded? I can’t find any.

  11. Looking into it. I already mentioned there is an issue with the “uploads” folder which, I think, is close to the size limit set by the host.

  12. Yup, media folder will not accept further uploads. As I mentioned previously, there are two alternatives:

    1: Upgrade the hosting contract

2: Archive old media files to free up space.

  13. Upgrade is up to the site owner. Deleting media files is doable but tedious in the extreme.

  14. I’ve sent a post by HMguy to the trash. He is Dave Hawkins at Talk Rational, and has been warned about posts promoting nazi ideology. He announced that he had tried to post here and at Stormfront. He should be banned (if I can figure out how to do it, I’ll do it, otherwise perhaps someone else could!)

This site will not host Nazi propaganda.

  15. In dealing with cleanup, I noticed the site had accumulated a considerable number (over 1,800) of spam registrations. I’ve cleared the clutter and did try to spot any genuine registrations among them. I didn’t see any but if any non-spam member has had their account removed, my apologies. You can email me at alanfox@free.fr to get reinstated.

  16. In order to control spam registrations, I’m trying a “turnstile” plugin. Let me know if this creates issues.
