If you are suggesting a change of theme, I don’t see why not. Lizzie liked twenty-eleven because of the minimalist look but it is as you say a bit clunky now.
Well, I was hoping there might be a solution within 2011. I can always switch to ‘classic’ I suppose, for the bits where it matters. There are a couple of other irritants too, but as I know nowt about the nuts and bolts of themes, I’m just a humble user!

Oh, you must be working on that OP! Using blocks does take a little getting used to but I quite like the system now. Have you tried fullscreen and or spotlight mode?
Or write it elsewhere and import?
That doesn’t work as well as it did prior to the change in editor. I recently used a bunch of single quotes in HTML tags, and when I imported the document, the editor made a huge mess of things. You’ve got to put arguments in double quotes, not single quotes.

I did, but then paragraphs become blocks when you repaste, with 3 blank lines between each. Ditto headings. I’ll cope, it just isn’t as editable as I’d like. There’s all sorts of stuff on the ‘net about dropping into CSS or editing as html, but – despite a lifetime in IT – I’m not a massive fan of brace-enclosed syntax in editors!

That works. You can choose either classic editor or blocks now when writing an OP. I’ve set classic as default and you can switch to blocks using the “switch to block editor” button in the edit settings side bar.
My intent was to warn Allan, even though I was addressing you. I think you ought to keep moving along with WordPress, even if it forces some of us to learn new tricks.
LOL. I did my last three OPs entirely in HTML/CSS, using the Caret add-on to Chrome for (language sensitive) editing. Caret does a good job of flagging syntax errors. Sad to say, when I imported the document, some of my CSS was automatically stripped. In particular, my attempts at preventing line breaks in spans with style display: inline-block; came to naught.

Personally, I enjoy phoodoo’s performance art, in particular his attempts to ridicule what he perceives as the “evilutionist” position. They’re truly hilarious! However, as has been explained to him on a number of occasions, when the topic is moderation issues, his art should not clutter up regular threads.
