My interview with Edouard Tahmizian of Internet Infidels

Edouard Tahmizian, who is a member of the Board of Directors of Internet Infidels, interviewed me yesterday on the book that I’m currently working on: An A to Z of Unanswered Objections to Christianity. The interview, which is now available on Freethinker Podcast, can be viewed here. Enjoy!

  1. Hi Vincent.

I’ve not found time to watch more than a couple of snippets and it was good to put a face and voice to the internet persona. I’m not a fan of video discussion as a format and I think I’m far from unique. Is your book to include versions of the articles you’ve already published here? If there is other material you think might interest readers, maybe a brief summary and time stamps would help.

  2. Hi Alan,

Thanks for watching. Here’s a brief summary of the topics I discuss in my interview:

    Libertarian freedom (around 8:57)
    Problem of evil (around 25:07)
    Heaven and Hell (around 35:25)
Divine Command theory of morality (42:43)
Evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus (48:57)

My book will consist of a discussion of 26 areas where Christian apologetics is in a state of crisis. The list of topics can be found here. Some of the material in my TSZ posts will be incorporated in my book, albeit in a somewhat briefer form, as I’m planning on spending about a dozen pages on each topic. I hope the book will be ready in a couple of years.

By the way, I wonder if you could do me a small favor. While Uncommon Descent has kept the vast majority of the articles I wrote for them (you can find a list here), there’s one particular article which they’ve deleted, titled, “Do Christians Worship the same God?” (December 2014). It’s not on the Wayback Internet, either. I was wondering whether TSZ might have saved an old copy. (Long shot, I know.) Cheers.

  3. I appreciate your skeptical work vjtorley. I am always interested in good skeptical arguments, and you are one of the most careful and fair thinker I have seen.

  4. I also agree Christian apologetics leave much to be desired. However, they are not all bad. JP Moreland has the best arguments I have read so far. WLC is pretty good, too.

  5. vjtorley: I was wondering whether TSZ might have saved an old copy.

I tried a site search but I didn’t find anything. Anyone else have any ideas?

  6. Thank you for posting our interview on here Vincent. It means a lot to me. It was a nice interview, and it was also the longest one I’ve done. I hoped you liked my Dr. William Lane Craig interview I sent you.

    Peace,

    Edouard

  7. Hi Edouard,

Thank you very much for your comments. I greatly enjoyed watching your interview with Dr. William Lane Craig, and I thought your choice of questions was both wide-ranging and ideally suited to a 17-minute interview. If I may mention it here, I understand that you’re planning an interview with Michael Alter in the near future, which should make for very interesting viewing. Cheers.

  8. Hi Alan,

Thank you very much for trying to retrieve a copy of my 2014 article, “Do Christians Worship the same God?” I knew it was very unlikely that anyone would have saved a copy, but it was worth a try, and I greatly appreciate your efforts.

  9. Hi EricMH,

I have a lot of respect for Dr. William Lane Craig and for J. P. Moreland as well. They are serious thinkers, and they wrestle with the difficult questions that confront Christians. While I disagree with some of the arguments they propose, I regard them as highly original philosophers and effective communicators of the Christian message. The difficulties for Christian belief that I propose to discuss in the book I’m working on will come to a head in the next decade or two. Consequently, it will be Dr. Craig’s successors who will have to address them. Cheers.

You mean you two, Vtorley and you, didn’t conspire to promote each other?
    I’m relieved… Thanks… it wasn’t obvious at first…

  12. Hi Edouard,

Thanks very much for the notice. I’m looking forward to seeing the interview with Michael on December 27. Season’s greetings and a happy New Year to you.

  13. vjtorley,

Yup, our interview will be available after 5pm Central Time. Tune into Freethinker Podcast around then to see it.

  14. By the way Vincent, if you ever want to do another interview again, just let me know and we will set up another Skype meeting.

Hope You Have A Good New Year!

  15. Hi Alan,

I’ve found the article I asked you about above. The error was mine, not Uncommon Descent’s. It turned out that I got the title of the article wrong: it wasn’t “Do Christians Worship the same God?” but “Do Christians worship many gods?” Thanks for your help, anyway.
