The Rules can be found there so anyone with an issue should check that they are familiar with them.

  2. phoodoo: You have been given example after example after example of posts by both Richard, and Adapa and others that have ZERO to do with addressing a post, and are simply intended to derail a conversation, and you continue to allow them. You often simply complain, well, you have to point them out to us. As if you can never see them.

    Looking at the last page or two of guano I see quite a few comments by Adapa and Richard.

    Oh, but you magically always see the responses from Frankie or Mung or myself to those posts, which your immediately move.

    I don’t see many recent guano’d comments from you and not that many by Mung. Frankie is on a learning curve. I think he’s improving.

    I used to give you the benefit of the doubt that this is not intentional. I don’t believe that anymore.

    Well, it’s no secret I’ve been watching Frankie’s comments most closely. In fact his comments were going to pre-moderation but I’m hoping that the latest situation, where he is posting with the same freedom as any other commenter, will prevail.

    Or you could consider the possibility that people generally believe what they write in comments. Everyone else can then bear in mind they must do the same for your comments. I’m sure it will be equally hard for us all.

    It might be shocking if I had made 95 posts in that thread about the video without actually having bothered to watch it, but I don’t recall talking about it at all until I actually viewed it.

    Phoodoo, that comment is in Noyau thread which Elizabeth created for exactly the kind of comment Patrick made to Sal. So, yeah, that’s the site she wants. You can like it or lump it but your opinion counts for nothing.

    Go ahead and complain. Complain about Patrick. Complain about moderation. Complain about TSZ as a whole.

    It only makes you look like more of a fool for wasting your life here, a place you hate so much.

    You’re getting something important to you out of being here – or else you’d go away and be happier – but Lord only knows what that something could be.

    If you ever figure out what you’re getting from hanging around here when you hate it, hate us, hate everything we stand for …

  28. I have a moderation question. All too often, I spend a LOT of time and effort entering a very long post into the comment box. I click on “post comment” and I get a screen that says “Hmm, we can’t seem to find that page.” And my entire post is lost forever!

    I’ve been trying to develop the habit of making a copy of every post before I hit the post button, but this shouldn’t be necessary. What gives?

    I have not had that happen. It’s hard to investigate something like that.

    Odd, it has been happening to me fairly regularly. And the error page isn’t always the same. Sometimes it sais “we can’t find that page” and sometimes it says “that page is not available” and sometimes it says “page not found”. Sometimes there is a large-font “404” heading, sometimes there isn’t.

    I guess I’ll have to make sure I copy every post before I hit the button, so that I can recreate it after I return (and everything I entered is gone).

    Also, I’ll try to get a snapshot of the error pages. First, I have to save my clipboard with the post…

  33. We’re half way though the first month of the new year and still the new rules have not been published. Yet admins are taking actions based on the [alleged] new rules which have still not been published.

    When will the new rules be published?

    I can’t test that one. I don’t have Windows 10, and I’m not anxious to get it.

    Maybe you could try firefox for a while, and see if the same thing happens there. I’m a linux person, and have mainly used firefox and konqueror for TSZ.

    I can’t speak for Lizzie but she has mentioned she is snowed under by end-of-term marking and is in the middle of preparing papers for publication. However, I wouldn’t expect any change of direction in the aims and objectives.

    Lizzie is keen to encourage free and open dialogue between people of widely differing views. Where the rules support that (no arbitrary deletions, editing or bannings) I’d expect them to be clarified rather than changed.

    I see Neil is on the case so I can’t add much except to say this is the first time I’ve heard this problem happening here. There’s certainly no arbitrary time limit been set for composing comments. If it were a general issue, I’d expect to have a few complaints by now. Being no sort of computer geek, I think a browser issue is a likely explanation.

    The first one could arguably be to the person not the content (“Pathetic, Mung.”) but I personally don’t see it crossing the line. The second doesn’t violate any rule as far as I can see.

    Continuity was my reason. If there are responses to a rule-breaking comment that I’m moving to guano, I normally move those too.

    Applied recursively that leads to 90% of the comments ending up in Guano.

    Not really. It’s the empty chair thing. If moving a rule-breaking comment leaves another comment referring to it, I move that too, for continuity.

    Admins do have special powers. However, you should be able to use the “upload file” plugin that shows in the comment box. PM me if you’re still having problems.
