Billionaire Bunkers

As nobody else is starting any threads at the moment maybe the video below will stimulate some discussion here. I like a good rant and Russel Brand is as good at ranting as anybody is made clear form his YouTube channel

If you had the cash to spare would you build yourself a bunker as seen in the video?

Was the title supposed to be “Billionaires are bonkers”?

They probably are all bonkers. But it didn’t stop their collective wealth increasing by 55% over the pandemic while small businesses all over the place are folding and people are losing their jobs.

  2. Kantian Naturalist:
My view, for what little it may be worth, is that it’s simply morally wrong to be rich.

I’m basically with you there. But I ask myself, am I rich? Well although I don’t have much in the way of financial worries, I would not be classed as rich in the society to which I belong. But on a worldwide scale of wealth I don’t think I’d be anywhere near the bottom. So in all probability there are millions of people out there who could rightly claim that I am rich.

The problem is that the disproportionately vast amount of wealth held by the few at the top is either unproductive or selfishly productive, and billionaire bunkers are a perfect example of this.

But as we live in such a competitive world where selfishness is considered a virtue, what else can we expect? Drastic changes are needed but do we have the will to make them?

  3. Here Henri Bortoft explains how Darwin applied idea of industrial life around him in England to the natural world.

The central idea of competitive, industrial capatalism of the market economy was applied by Darwin to nature in order to explain how evolution happened. The competition in nature he equated with the competition he saw in industry.

Bortoft tells us that Darwin invested heavily in industry and Desmond and Moore have a book on Darwin that has a “lovely phrase” that “Darwin was a very rich man”…”and he simply put his mouth where his money was”.

Was Darwin on the wrong side of morality?

There was a time when democratic reforms seemed like the best way to go, but that time has passed.

No question that Darwin’s initial idea of natural selection was inspired by capitalism, or that lots of people — most notably Herbert Spencer — took Darwin’s ideas as saying that capitalism is “natural” and that any attempt to interfere with capitalism was “unnatural” and therefore “bad.”

Was Darwin on the wrong side of morality?

    Oh, definitely. No question.

  5. I think that Russell Brand transformation into the sort of Jimmy Dore, Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibbi fake media barkers has not been a good one.

There is a ceratin algorithm in youtube and other social media, which favors appealing to the right-wing young to middle aged male, because they are the biggest group of viewers on youtube. Brand and these other scammers have lashed onto this (Tucker Carlson, Tim Pool, Dave Reuben, on and on…). There is money to be made by jumping on this bandwagon of fake outrage. At presnt the formula is to pretend you care about the average man, and then blame the left for not caring about them. This is what Brand has been doing for about the past year or so-and as a result his viewship has skyrocketed. You just need to be antivax, anti wokeness, pretend you hate billionaires but blame the left, pretend you hate big pharma, but promote big pharma, pretend you hate the elitists, but be totally against any tax reform which hits the super rich, pretend the investigations into the Orange clown were all conspiracy related and fake, and ignore that programs like Build Back which actually tried to bring back fairness into the system were derailed by democrats, when not a single dam republican is willing to do anything to make policies for the middle class-not one.

When you ignore obvious things like this, you become fake media yourself, and no one should take other things you say seriously. Brand, Greenwald, Taibbi, Dore, these guys are some of the fakest clowns out there right now, and I find them almost as repugnant as the Mitch McConnells and Ted Cruz’s and Lindsay Grahams, because they have a soul and know better but still will say anything for money. The Lindsay Grahams and McConnells never had a soul or a conscience to begin with.

  6. To me, its like of course wealth inequality has become this grotesque stain on the western world. But then for them to act like well, its as much the democrats fault as the republicans, maybe even more so is just such disingenuous lying, bullcrap. But that’s why these guys have now built there business model on, blame the left for the utter contempt the right has for even trying to do one single thing to help people. Russel Brand knows better but has sold out his soul. Greenwald sold his soul. Matt Taibbi sold his soul to russia. Fake fuckers everyone of them.

How many videos has Brand made over the past year calling out this hypocrisy of acting like the blame is equal to both parties?
