The Tide Turns in Landlocked Ohio

Back in May of this year, Zack Kopplin reported that an Ohio school district was teaching creationism using a video from Harun Yahya. Yahya is the pseudonym of Adnan Oktar, an Islamic televangelist and creationist.

Hemant Mehta, The Friendly Atheist, notes the that new CEO of the Youngstown school district is putting a stop to that. Starting immediately, science classes in the district will conform to state standards. Creationism, including the intelligent design variant, are definitely not part of those standards.

It looks like a good start to the school year in Ohio.

  1. I guess that takes ID-Creationist Douglas Axe’s ode to stupidity Undeniable off the reading list.

“Forget that scientific empirical evidence crap, just trust your common sense that GAWDDIDIT!”

  2. Mung:
Is Ohio landlocked like California is landlocked?

Those of us on the coasts don’t take mere lakes into consideration, no matter how great some think they are.

  3. is censorship a state standard? YES! i don’t know this muslim guy but like , some, muslim, nations cstate censorship in education about options for origins proves they are off the same rack.
Its immoral, illegal, Un American, unintelligent to ban God and Genesis in subjects about origins.
Its just oppression plain and simple. About important things.
YES creationism is not easily refuted in any class. YES evolutiopn etc lose or get beat up.
    TOO bad!
Someone needs to bring famous court cases and put to the sword this censorshop which really is anti Christian agitation.

I await your rigorous definition of a coast that doesn’t just beg the question.

I grew up in Minnesota, and can confidently say that our particular lake on the eastern border not only was great, it was Superior.

In general, you need ocean access not controlled by another nation.

  7. There’s a little bit of ambiguity. Does the Black Sea count as ocean? How about the Caspian? No idea what Mung is on about, as usual. If anything.
