Saying or implying that UD bans people for merely posting opinions that disagree with management is a blatant lie. petrushka has constantly lied, misrepresented and equivocated over on UD. That is why it was booted. The same goes for all TSZ regulars. They just can’t handle the truth

The problem with trying to discuss things with creationists/IDists, here or elsewhere, is that each side comes to the issues for entirely different purposes. The science side wants to discuss science (there are a variety of reasons, but I think especially here the wish for discussion of science predominates), and the creationist side simply wants to ward off a threat.
Mostly, IDists/creationists are here to perform warding-off rituals, in fact.
That’s why they just throw whatever they can against evilutionism. Were they in the slightest interested in truly following the evidence wherever it leads, having their evidence knocked out would initiate a rethinking of their position(s). That doesn’t happen (it probably does, some, but almost always it would involve lurkers, not the people commenting), from the top ID leaders to mere chanting denialists like FrankenJoe. They just try to find another weapon to ward off unwelcome conclusions.
It’s why the “assume others are posting in good faith” rule is so annoying. The creationists almost never do, not according to intellectual standards, at least. On the other hand, the creationists actually think that warding off evilutionism is the good to be had here, hence they are posting in (religious) good faith. There is a good intention behind the rule of assuming good faith–this being the achievement of a certain level of civility–yet when one side is intent on science without reservation, and the other side claims to love science (and often does, so long as it seems safe for religion) but simply loathes the “wrong” scientific conclusions, there’s really no middle ground.
I don’t follow the particulars of the squabbles over moderation, but it does seem to me that in the end the moderators do favor the evidence-based arguments over the rest. While that might seem fair in principle, in practice the ID/creationist side is going to find this to be unfair, because, well, they don’t really deal with evidence properly.
I don’t know what can be done about any of this, I guess I just found yet another round with an IDist avoiding the issues, using disanalogies, and trying to babble away the actual question, to be yet again highly annoying. At least we have to recognize that the IDist/creationist almost always is interested almost exclusively in warding off the unwelcome conclusions of science, and not in actually pursuing any kind of discourse aimed at following the evidence. I’ve never quite understood how that can be treated as if it were good faith argumentation, even though they mostly really don’t know how to act in good faith in these matters.
