Hate the sin, love the sinner

  1. I have been waiting all day for someone to make a comment about this OP…
I know that I’m not being presumptuous by saying that this is one of the worst, if not the worst OPs ever produced at TSZ. I have read Byers OPs, and I was not as confused as I was after reading this piece of s..t…

The title has nothing to do with the content itself… This is a clear example of the violation of publishing privileges at TSZ…

  2. I was not planning to comment on this topic. And I don’t think it adds to the site. However, the title is very much about the content.

You give yourself too little credit.

  4. John Harshman: You give yourself too little credit.

Don’t forget how much credit you should give yourself for protecting your scientific delusions… Why don’t you finally admit that you were the one who got me banned from publishing rights? Everyone already knows that. So, why can’t you admit that you had to lower yourself to this level to protect your life work that is supposed to be a scientific fact? It is pretty sad that supposed scientific evidence requires this kind of measures by the authors of the papers to defend it… I guess the new way of Darwinists to defend their delusions is going to be bullying and burning the opposers alive…

Neil, Why don’t you start by telling us all how the title relates to the content, since we all already know that you will do nothing about the nonsense the OP contains…

  6. J-Mac: … since we all already know that you will do nothing about the nonsense the OP contains…

I have allowed your posts — I even clicked the “Publish” button for them. Why do you suppose that would I interfere with this post?

What are you talking about? Why is there Submit for Review active button then?

  8. I consider myself fortunate not to know what this is about. I can guess the topic, but If have no knowledge at all about the specific dispute.

  9. Neil Rickert: I was commenting about the pot calling the kettle black.

And you really came through faster than the speed of light this time…
    Thanks!

    You’ve missed nothing… trust me.

  11. My post is directed at the non-stupid component of the Christian Right (which was smart enough to eject J-Mac from its Big Tent). We have plenty of readers in that group, though they rarely comment here. I’m sure that Barry Arrington would see immediately that I’ve packed quite a bit of significance into very few words. There are plenty of other Christian conservatives who will recognize a challenge to their beliefs, though I have not spelled out the challenge.

If the strangeness of my post does not provoke you to delve into it, that is fine. But I must say that it’s sheer ignorance to judge what I’ve done when you’ve bothered neither to read the background material nor to ask me questions about what I was trying to do.

  12. Tom English,

In other words, your post is America-centric. Only there you have conservative Christians in the political sense. Or any Christians in the political sense. In (mainland) Europe, Christians don’t think their country is a theocracy or that it should be. Not even in Germany, where you have so-called Christian Democrats in power – it’s not really a Christian party, it’s just the other party, other than Social Democrats.

It’s a strange post in that there’s barely enough context in it so that it could provoke.

Although I agree that conservative Christians have not risen to such political prominence here in Europe as in the US, similar issues do arise from time to time. In particular, I am thinking of the issues we had here in the Netherlands when gay marriage was being legalized. Shortly thereafter, several civil servants refused to wed gay couples, because of religious objections (they were called “weigerambtenaren”). This was a pickle, as civil servants act as representatives of the government. After some debate, the government adopted a law that made it impossible to employ civil servants conducting weddings (ambtenaar van de burgelijke stand), if they object to wedding gay people . The existing “weigerambtenaren” were allowed to retain their position, but their numbers will gradually drop to zero this way. I don’t think you will be surprised to learn that the christian parties, including christian democrats opposed this legislation.

  14. Corneel: I don’t think you will be surprised to learn that the christian parties, including christian democrats opposed this [gay] legislation.

Not at all surprised. And I’m also not surprised that the legislation passed anyway.

Often enough Christian institutions in Europe don’t oppose gay legislation though, traditional churches officially adopt the policy to bless gay couples to be in line with the state, and so on. Nothing much Christian left in them.

  15. Matthew 5:38-42 is beautiful. And nothing is currently further from it than mainstream christianity.

I think this post is quite profound. Thank you. Have you heard of a liberal christian apologist named Rob Bell?

A 4 minute discussion with Oprah.
