Welcome a new overlord!

I’m very pleased to say that Mung has very kindly agreed to join the admin team.

Thank you so much Mung, and welcome!

In other news (?) – I finally managed to catch up (nearly) sufficiently on my work back-log to take a vacation, but unfortunately (but unsurprisingly!) the internet connection is very poor.  We are walking the Coast-to-Coast route from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire. Will post some pics!ffff

And I look forward (?) to reading the Squawk Box comments on my return – and letting you know my responses and thoughts.  Hang in there, guys!

Greetings oh great overlord Mung. You are the smartest of the smart, the wisest of the wise, the most learned of the learned, the most logical of the logical.TSZ shall henceforth be a beacon of light and knowledge to all mankind from this day forth because of your reign.Peoples from all over the planet shall be blessed by the knowledge that flows out our keyboards onto their computer screens while you set the standard for all admins of all websites in cyberspace.

    Meh.

  2. Alan Fox: This is getting beyond banter. If you want to continue querying moderating policy, do it in the moderation issues thread, or squawkbox.

Are you saying this as a moderator? I thought you weren’t a moderator?

This is a thread about a new moderator, so how can talking about the moderation policy and about who the actual moderators are be off topic on a thread about who the new moderators are? It sure is fuck is more on topic than talking about beer.

I think you are lucky Mung hasn’t already banned you.

  3. phoodoo: Are you saying this as a moderator?

I’m saying it as Alan Fox, who is one of the admins here and who has found himself drawn back in due to a particular issue.

    I thought you weren’t a moderator?

“Moderator” isn’t a role or position at TSZ. There are admins who, from time to time and depending on who is available and what needs doing, will moderate comment threads.

This is a thread about a new moderator…

It’s Lizzie, TSZ owner, announcing the appointment of our latest admin and welcoming him to the team.

…so how can talking about the moderation policy and about who the actual moderators are be off topic on a thread about who the new moderators are?

There is no general rule regarding off-topic comments, except for discussion about moderation. Moderation issues, and only moderation issues, should be discussed in the moderation issues thread.

It sure is fuck is more on topic than talking about beer.

I guess you don’t like beer.

I think you are lucky Mung hasn’t already banned you.

Well, let’s see how things go. It’s an experiment.

  4. Hey Lizzie, you’ll pass pretty close to my house – I live near Kendal, and those Cumbrian hills are my back yard. Enjoy!

    Hi Allan!

Maybe you could meet up for a beer. 🙂

Hope this isn’t just a drive-by. Many members, including me, miss your input.

Cheers Alan. I’d certainly be up for a beer, should Lizzie be in the vicinity! I greatly enjoyed our lunch last year. I’ll be crossing the route of the Coast to Coast in a mountain race tomorrow. We may pass in the mist, if she has set off!

It is a drive by, sadly. I had last year off, but I’ve taken a contract on, so my free time is restricted, at least until Christmas when I’ll probably retire. I lurk, but I’m a compulsive responder, so I keep my schnozz out of it!

  7. walto: Meh.

Double meh. I have neither love for mung’s thoughts, nor fear of his admin powers. The only people who have power at this site are those who are able to discuss ideas without rancor. That would be some of the people, some of the time. The posts I like to read don’t get moved.

If there were no moderation at all, I would just do more scrolling.

  8. petrushka: That would be some of the people, some of the time.

That’s a bit uncharitable. I’d say it’s most of the people for most of the time.

  9. Allan Miller: I’ll be crossing the route of the Coast to Coast in a mountain race tomorrow.

    Coincidence? Hmmm!

I see the current record for running Wainright’s route is 39 hours 36 minutes and 52 seconds. Feel like a challenge?

There are good days and bad days. I guess I remember the bad days.

Coincidence? Kinda! Hard to do a long race in the Lakes without crossing it somewhere! In the event, yesterday’s race was based at Grasmere, on the route, and wandered widely on both sides of the valley, so plenty of Coast to Coasters encountered.

The organisers of a 50 miler I’m doing next month also organise a Coast to Coast race. I was tempted!

You could have passed like ships in the night! 😯 Lizzie would have been the one wearing the canvass hat.
