Thanks to Allan Miller, I discovered a blog on a similar theme at\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sandwalk.blogspot.ca\/2013\/02\/craig-ventor-discusses-tree-of-life.html\">sandawalk link here\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>This is what professor Moran says about the video (his video is 42 min long):<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>&#8221; Everything that Ventor says is correct. He didn&#8217;t need to quibble about the universality of the genetic code but it&#8217;s true that there are variants.&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><em><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">&#8220;I&#8217;m pretty sure that Dawkins doesn&#8217;t agree (in reference to video) with those who question whether there&#8217;s a tree of life. One of the most profound implications of the net of life is that it&#8217;s <\/span><strong style=\"color: #3366ff;\">consistent with several independent origins of life<\/strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"> that preceded the rise of a modern genetic code and contributed to existing species. In other words,<\/span><strong style=\"color: #3366ff;\"> there may not be a single LUCA (Last Universal Common Ancestor)<\/strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">. Dawkins does not like that. It&#8217;s not what he says on the lecture circuit.&#8221; (my emphasis)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>There is probably no one in the world of biology today as respected as <strong>Craig Venter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Well, his achievements are indeed great including being involved with sequencing the human genome and assembled the first team to transfect a cell with a synthetic chromosome, which some even went as far as calling the creation of artificial life&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Now apparently, he is involved in the anti-aging research&#8230;no surprise here&#8230;he is 70 and would like reach <a href=\"http:\/\/theskepticalzone.com\/wp\/the-mysteries-of-evolution-5-the-immortal-jellyfish\/\">immortality like the jellyfish&#8230;<\/a>Who can blame him&#8230;He is an atheist&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>However, his also known for what some would call <strong>radical statements such as denying the common descent which is the very foundation of evolutionary theory&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Common descent describes how, in evolutionary biology, a group of organisms share a most recent common ancestor.\u00a0<\/em><em>Common ancestry between organisms of different species <strong>apparently<\/strong> arises during speciation, in which new species are established from a single ancestral population. Organisms which share a more recent common ancestor are <strong>apparently<\/strong> closely related.&#8221; &#8211;Wiki<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The apparent common descent of all organisms on earth doesn&#8217;t agree with Craig Venter&#8217;s research&#8230;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here is what he says on the theme:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dr. Craig Venter Denies Common Descent in front of Richard Dawkins!\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MXrYhINutuI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While some may object that this is an old and recycled subject, I would argue that to claim that, one would have to present the evidence that Venter&#8217;s claims have been refuted since&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I have noticed that <em><strong>the tree of life<\/strong><\/em> is being used on many threads, including <a href=\"http:\/\/theskepticalzone.com\/wp\/a-prediction-tested\/comment-page-1\/\">miraculous insertions of genes into the tree of life<\/a> that many, like Venter \u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/science\/2009\/jan\/21\/charles-darwin-evolution-species-tree-life\">others had already buried&#8230;\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, in view of my recent OPs\u00a0<strong>The Mystery of Evolution\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/theskepticalzone.com\/wp\/the-mysteries-of-evolution-6-endosymbiosis-the-second-miracle-of-life-after-the-origin-of-life\/\"># 6 <\/a>especially,<\/strong> it doesn&#8217;t look like the issue of common ancestry has been resolved at all&#8230;The genes are still not accounted for and the proposed mechanism for the endosymbiosis seems sketchy&#8230; if not miraculous&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>If anything, the <strong><em>supposed<\/em><\/strong> common ancestry got more complicated on the much deeper and deeper level in the history of life and no wonder that Venter claims that:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Venter: <em>&#8220;&#8230;I\u2019m not so sanguine as some of my colleagues here,\u201d he said, \u201cthat there\u2019s only one life form on this planet. We have a lot of different types of metabolism, different organisms. I wouldn\u2019t call you [Venter said, turning to physicist Paul Davies, on his right] the same life form as the one we have that lives in pH 12 base, that would dissolve your skin if we dropped you in it.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What does he mean by this?\u00a0Is there more then one form life on earth?<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Davies<\/strong> \u201cWell, I\u2019ve got the same genetic code, \u201cWe\u2019ll have a common ancestor.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Venter<\/strong>: <strong><em>\u201cYou don\u2019t have the same genetic code,\u201d replied Venter. \u201cIn fact, the Mycoplasmas [a group of bacteria Venter and his team have used to engineer synthetic chromosomes] use a different genetic code that would not work in your cells.
